The economic cost of the opioid epidemic in the state of Washington state came to over $9 billion in 2016, according to a report released Monday by Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash.The Evergreen State has experienced between 640 and 718 opioid deaths each year in the past decade, the majority from prescription drugs but a rising number from heroin overdoses.
